Day 111 / 2022 Photo Project365

The Garden Folk.

Who are the Garden Folk? They are Ryan and Travis, master gardeners in Connecticut. We met them through the Wakeman Town Farm Sustainability Center — yes, their acronym is “WTF” and they have t-shirts — where the Garden Folk had done beautiful things with vegetables, flowers, wood, stone, and soil. Now they help us grow beautiful things in our garden.

Travis and Ryan visited last week for the first spring evaluation of our garden and discovered that some creature had methodically attempted to chew its way through the garden fence. There were chew holes all around the perimeter, spaced almost perfectly 3-4 feet apart! From the height and size of the chew-radius, we guessed it was it was most likely a groundhog going after the tender late season lettuces we had growing into November last year.

So, today, the Garden Folk came by for the first spring planting and put in a finer wire mesh fence over the chew holes, hoping to deter the lettuce-loving rodent! And of course, since we’re “garden friends” now, it was time to take a portrait of them. LOL

I had a partially-used pack of peel-apart pack-film (FujiFilm FP-100c, expired in 2018) in my Polaroid BIG SHOT Portrait Camera, so I walked out to the garden with it and proposed a portrait. They cracked up laughing and agreed! It’s always a bit of a surprise when people first see a BIG SHOT camera — a big gray plastic box thing — so they’re amused when they pose. The coolest thing is that the results are visible in sixty seconds. 🙂

Their Instagram is @GardenFolkLLC — check them out! And if you live in Connecticut, think about having Ryan and Travis do something beautiful in your garden…
